Queen for a Day

Today's card is for a lady I truly admire. She's turning 65 today
and is retiring from teaching at the end of the school year.
She's going to greatly missed by all the staff and the students.

There's definitely a lot going on with this card. What helps to make it not
look cluttered is the fact that the focal point has been clustered together mainly
in one area of the card. There are some great tutorials on how to create a
focal point over at StampNation.

Here is a close-up of the focal point.

This was a fun card to make - I love all the layers, the vintage look
of the flower and the doily that has been sponged with ink. If you look
close, tucked in behind he greeting and the bottle cap is another piece
of lace, there's stamping inside the bottle cap and of course what
card for a queen is complete without a crown and some jewels!

I also like how this card combines some vintagy/shabby looks with
some trendy looks too - the honeycomb embossing folder along
with the chevron stamped oval piece. For more texture I cut the
chevron piece and layered it on itself. I like how that came out.

This was a happy accident but I like how the top layer of dsp almost
mimics the honeycomb layer  - it's not exact but it is there.
Keeping the colors all pretty neutral also helps in making this
card not appear overly cluttered.

Happy Stampin'
and thanks so much for visiting!!!
